Quartermaster INEOS Kaiju – Birth of an Australian Monster

By the rest of the world’s standards, the INEOS Grenadier may be somewhat overrated as an off-roader, more than capable of tackling the worst that Mother Nature can throw at you. But, by Australian standards, where even the most powerful SUVs split in half with just a second of exposure when you’re driving in the outback, it wouldn’t hurt to have some upgrades. Although the majority of off-road SUVs and Utes in the Land Down Under get third-party modifications, sometimes, actual automakers have some fun with them, too. And INEOS seems to want to get in on the action, as they have since showcased a very cool Kaiju Quartermaster.

It’s an appropriate name, too, because “Kaiju” in Japanese means “giant creature” or “monster.” Not only does it reflect how capable the INEOS Grenadier platform is, but it’s a nice tribute to how many Australians love modified Japanese SUVs. It’s basically a subculture in itself there, although it’s a shame that the Kaiju Quartermaster is a one-off model. However, while this may be INEOS’s first ever special project, it helps showcase the many customization options and versatility that will be available with the Grenadier Quartermaster. And hey, with how easy it is to modify, it might not be that hard to replicate Kaiju either.

A British off-road monster for the outback

INEOS wasn’t alone in creating the Kaiju Quartermaster, mind you. They have worked alongside some of Australia’s best accessories providers, such as Norweld, REDARC and JMACX, as well as the folks at BF Goodrich, MAXTRAX, GME, STEDI and Brown Davis. In doing so, this design was intended to highlight the blank canvas design type of the INEOS Grenadier, and also includes a Quartermaster pickup or Ute variant. In other words, you can easily install and swap things on the Grenadier, and customize it to your specific needs or use case. So, whether you want to use it for off-roading or double as a workhorse for the dealer, it’s all possible!

Some noteworthy design elements of the INEOS Kaiju Quartermaster include the nice, custom Norweld Elite tray and the Compact Deluxe Lite canopy, designed to be durable and lightweight. Adding some stiff JMACX off-road suspension should ensure improved off-road capability as well. In particular, it includes 16-stage adjustable remote reservoir shock absorbers and built-in shock zones to protect you Your shiny new INEOS protects against damage in extreme conditions. Oh, and I would be remiss if I didn’t mention those big sets of BF Goodrich KM3 mud terrain tires, mounted with 315/70 R17 all around for maximum grip and performance on tough terrain.

Showcasing what’s possible with the INEOS Grenadier

Just in case something goes wrong, you’ll of course need a reliable backup power source. It’s good to know, then, that the Kaiju Quartermaster comes with a handy REDARC 150A lithium battery, a 2000W RS3 inverter, and advanced power management technology, to boot. This should allow you to easily switch between battery and mains power. Along with the larger battery, there is now a larger, longer-range expedition-spec fuel tank. Specifically, you’re looking at a 168-litre Brown Davis fuel tank. What’s more, when paired with a 40-litre water tank and a Bushman refrigerator, you’ll likely be able to live off the grid in the outback for some time.

To ensure you can get top-notch visibility, the Kaiju Quartermaster is equipped with STEDI lighting systems, including flood lights and flood beams. Additionally, the GME XRS-660 and XRS-370C4P UHF radio kit ensures you have a robust communication setup, working in conjunction with a heavy-duty UFH antenna. Pair all of this as a complete package, Ben INEOS Grenadier front and rear differential locksa high air intake, and tons of off-road ability, you have what could be one of the most capable overland vehicles ever to come out of the factory. If you live Down Under, check out these great Kaiju while you still can!
