Mazda 6e revealed as a stylish electric hatchback arriving in 2026

The Mazda 6 has a reputation for being a subservient, if not spectacular, family car. It hasn’t gone on sale since 2023, leaving a non-SUV gap in Mazda’s family car lineup. The new Mazda 6e aims to fill this gap, with the added benefit of an electric powertrain to reduce emissions from transporting children to and from school. Like the combustion model, it is beautiful and has the practicality needed to withstand the rigors of family life.

A new design philosophy implemented the right way

Sixth Presents the evolution of Mazda design. The low roofline and sports saloon shape may hand over checks that performance can’t cash, but the hatchback ensures that practicality won’t be an issue. New side lights up front will make the Mazda 6e stand out in the rearview mirrors, flutter when the car is charging, and display the charging status.

From the side, it’s stylish and the 19-inch wheels are not only sporty but also enhance range thanks to their aerodynamic design. The rear features small taillights in the same design as other Mazda offerings, while a light bar enhances the sporty, sleek aesthetic. Mazda lettering replaces the badge, which many manufacturers do, and the rear spoiler extends electronically to enhance stability and street cred.

A combination of light and technology for added elegance

Inside, the Mazda 6e is almost as nice as it is outside. The panoramic roof lets in a lot of light and Mazda designed this design with that in mind. The floating center console and instrument panel enhance the feeling of space. On the tech front, there’s a 14.6-inch touchscreen and a 10.2-inch instrument cluster, complemented by an augmented reality head-up display.

Premium materials will be featured throughout the Mazda 6e’s interior, with Takumi trims offering the option of beige or black synthetic leather and Takumi Plus including dark brown Nappa leather. Excellent passenger space is promised, with a 330-litre boat capacity and a 70-litre storage area under the bonnet.

Choose your powertrain

The Mazda 6e is launching with two powertrain options. The 68.8 kWh version offers a range of up to 300 miles, with 254 horsepower, and a 0-62 mph acceleration time of 7.6 seconds. The 80kWh option offers up to 345 miles of range, although with slightly less power and a 0-62mph time of 7.8 seconds. Both support DC fast charging, with the smaller battery variant capable of getting up to 145 miles of range in just 15 minutes.

The Mazda 6e will go on sale in Europe later this year, with sales starting in the UK next year. Pricing and full specifications will be revealed in due course, although the sixth model is likely to be available for less than £45,000.
