Eye-catching 0 Series prototypes represent a bold new era for Honda
As a key part of Honda’s bold and unrestrained push towards an all-electric future, the Japanese brand has since unveiled two eye-catching new prototypes for the upcoming 0 Series family…the Honda 0 Saloon and Honda 0 Series. 0 SUVs. Although it’s not the kind of fancy painting that will set your heart on fire, it at least looks cool! You’ll see more of these soon, e.g Honda’s all-electric 0 Series lineup Scheduled to make its global debut from 2026 onwards, it will be built on an all-new, dedicated EV architecture. Additionally, Honda’s tried-and-tested “thin, light, wise” approach to car design appears to still be there.
This line of thinking is refreshing enough, although Honda is keen to show off its technological side in the new 0 Series models. For example, Honda’s old ASIMO humanoid robot returns in the new 0 Series models. However, instead of a robot, ASIMO is Honda’s next-generation in-car operating system, with its software suite including driver assistance software, in-car digital experiences, as well as semi-autonomous driving. Speaking of which, the Series 0 should also include Level 3 semi-autonomous driving. As you can imagine, all this tech needs a lot of processing power, so the Series 0 will come with a super-powerful Renesas R-Car X5 SoC.
Honda 0 Saloon – elegant, sporty and miserable cheese wedge
As much as all this talk about technology turns on my geek side, I can’t help it Rush into the Honda 0 Series saloon. Surprisingly, this prototype remains quite faithful to the original concept that Honda showed off at CES last year (2024). Presumably we’ll have to wait and see if that’s actually true, but Honda claims the final production model will closely mimic its concept version here. I hold them to that, but I’d love to see Honda try to use an equally bold and striking design language like this more often, just like they did with the Honda e. They haven’t revealed much though, but the information we do have is exciting stuff!
The Honda 0 Saloon features the sleek, low-key cheese wedge design language I usually see in sci-fi movies and concept cars of the 80s and 90s. However, what’s surprising about the Honda 0 Saloon is that despite the sporty and compact exterior – it looks a little larger from the pictures – the cabin is designed to be very spacious and practical. Since it’s built on Honda’s updated dedicated EV platform, I expect good range as well. As I mentioned earlier, the Honda 0 Saloon is an amazing technology car, with Honda’s ASIMO operating system and Level 3 semi-autonomous driving, offering eyes-free driving.
Honda 0 SUV – The boxy vanguard of Honda’s electric offensive
As much as I’m a fan of the new Honda 0 saloon, the 0 SUV is just as stylish. I know most of you are probably bored with crossovers and SUVs by now, but Honda seems to have done a pretty great job with the 0 SUV. You might notice some strange similarities to the Honda 0 SUV, as it’s based on the old Honda Space-Hub concept they introduced at CES 2024. The big change here is that Honda has gone for an SUV form factor, rather than a pickup truck. More than the 0 Saloon, the 0 SUV is designed to maximize interior space, creating a more open, airy and flexible cabin. This also provides you with a wide, clear and unrestricted field of view for optimal viewing.
Additionally, the 0 SUV aims to excite you in the driving experience department. Not that I expect dynamism from an SUV, but Honda wants to incorporate some clever technology to squeeze more sporty performance out of an SUV 0. In short, it uses a set of 3D gyroscopic sensors, drawn from Honda’s extensive experience in robotics , which helps improve and increase stability and accuracy in diverse road conditions. When it launches in the first half of 2026, the Honda 0 SUV will enter a crowded market, where it will compete with the likes of the Tesla Model Y and Toyota bZ4X. If looks are anything to go by, I dare say Honda might have an ace up its sleeve!
